How do you plan a lesbian or gay wedding? Do lesbians have bridesmaids or groomsmen? Who proposes to whom? What are the brides going to wear? These were just some of the questions that came up after we got engaged. Some we asked ourselves and some curious relatives, friends and inquisitive cab drivers asked us.
When planning your wedding everyone tells you “it’s your day.” Several years ago, in the midst of making my film The Gay Marriage Thing, I didn’t let myself dream about my day. But, after all the planning and the incredible feedback we received from everyone in attendance, we can say with certainty that it was our day and it was filled with love and exhilaration and was exactly how we envisioned it. And, it was legal.
Whether you’re planning for your special day, are attending a gay or lesbian wedding and don’t know what to expect or are just wondering, “How do you plan a gay wedding anyway?” you’ll find posts to answer many of your questions, various resources and vendor recommendations.
So, from our Big Lesbian Jewish Catholic Italian Irish Israeli Gay Wedding to yours, Mazel Tov!
